Now to business: tonight, we had a melon starter for tea. But not any old slices of melon: juicy wedges of my first homegrown beastie. Sown in an unheated greenhouse in May, it took off in the hot and humid summer weather. By mid-August, a single fruit had set...
... and by mid-September, it had reached the grand size of 9 cm - the rest of the plant looked quite peaky, so I picked it at this point...
... and let it ripen...
I'm always shocked and excited, cutting open homegrown fruit. There's always an element of surprise that 'it's a real melon!'
Yup, it's a real melon, man.
